Sri Lanka Army opens fire on civilian

Mr. L. Gopiraj, 29, from Alvaddey, was seriously injured when the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) opened fire while he was traveling along Palaly Road in Jaffna.

The incident is said to have occurred at 2.30p.m local time on Saturday. This follows the murder of two farmers in Neervely on Thursday by Sri Lanka Army Intelligence.

Jaffna came to a standstill yesterday as residents protested against the continued targeting of civilians by SLA assassination squads.

This random act of violence by the SLA is to be reported to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission.
