Halt to Tsunami aid prompts protests in Trinco

Tsunami disaster victims from the Upuveli area of Trincomalee, an area under the occupation of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, held a general protest in response to a halt in their Tsunami aid.

Civilian sources told this website that 210 families from this area were affected by the Tsunami. However, only 55 families are currently receiving any aid money.

There have been many claims of widespread corruption within government circles in the distribution of Tsunami aid.

Earlier this year the JVP (Marxist Sinhala extremists) successfully halted the PTOMs agreement which was to ensure equitable distribution of aid across the North-East.
