Army sentry point at Point Pedro school gates attacked.

The Sri Lanka Army sentry points located at the entrance to Hartley College, and Methodist Girls High School of Point Pedro came under grenade attack this evening at about 7.00pm local time.

The town has been a flash point in recent months as parents fearing for the safety of their children have demonstrated several times to have sentry points removed from public places.

A recent UN report highlighted the extensive negative effect the armed conflict has had on children.

There have been several cases where Sri Lankan Army and Police have been implicated in rape and murder of school girls.

The most publicized case has been the rape, torture and murder of Krishanthi Kumaraswamy, an 18 year old Jaffna school girl, along with her mother, brother and their neighbor.
